      Wheel and Wine

      Book in for a memorable experience with friends, fun, creativity and clay!
      This is perfect for beginners and is all about having fun and giving pottery on the wheel a go.

      You will get 2 goes on the wheel to make your vessels. You then choose your favorite pot to keep and we will fire and glaze it for you in a choice of 3 colours.

      Bring a bottle of your favorite tipple and some sweet and salty snacks too for a relaxed playful experience.

      6 people maximum booking
      Your pots will be ready for pickup approx. 3 weeks after
      * Please drink responsibly. We will not teach intoxicated people.

      Beginners Pottery Course

      A very good place to start

       

      Learn the basics of pottery with this introductory 5 week course. Enjoy the therapeutic benefits and explore your creativity with this unique medium. Over this 5-week course we will explore hand building processes including pinch, coil, and slab building as well as gain an understanding of the tools and methods involved in hand building.

       

      Projects will focus on functional vessels; mugs, vases and bowls. Participants will learn about glazing and how color and surface design can bring life to their works. All levels welcome. This is a great idea for a day out with friends, and is the ideal experience gift for the creative type in your life who loves to try

       

      Pottery 102

      level up!

       

      Take your pottery to the next level with this 102 pottery course. If you have completed a beginners pottery course and want to develop your skills further then this course is for you. Over 5-week you will learn to develop your technical skills in building and decorating techniques.

       

      We will refresh on the basic hand building techniques and add fun techniques such as using coloured (stained) clay, making your own glazes, pulling handles and slip decorating.

      Wheel Throwing Taster Session

       

      Experience the joys of throwing on the potters wheel. Bring your partner or a friend for a fun wheel throwing taster class. Perfect for total beginners- learn the basics of throwing in this unique taster session. You can choose your favorite pot to be bisque and glaze fired, ready for pickup at a later date.

      Private beginners wheel throwing Course

      An Introduction to wheel throwing

       

      Have you always wanted to try your hand on the potters wheel?

       

      Over the course of 3 weekly sessions you will learn the fundamentals of throwing on the wheel: centering, opening up, lifting wall and more! these one on one sessions are the perfect opportunity to discover the joys of wheel throwing.

       

      This course is perfect for total beginners who want to come to class at a time that suite them. Book for you or the whole family to come and play in the mud!

      Take some time out from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the therapeutic effects of creating with clay.

       

      These relaxed classes are tailored to you. If your a complete beginner we can keep things simple and work on some fun projects selected especially for you.

      Or, perhaps you are an experienced potter but have hit a creative rut and want some support getting to the next level.

      These sessions can be for one or more people. Maybe you've got a creative child and you'd like to come and experience pottery together!

      Burnished pot and Teepee Firing workshop

      Burnished pot and Teepee Firing workshop

      Teepee firings are when you wrap your pots in a variety of materials such as seaweed and horse hair, then place them on sawdust in a shallow pit. Branches are stacked over the pots to create a Tepee which is then wrapped with slip soaked cloth. Once constructed the Teepee is set alight! We are offering 2 handbuilding workshops where you will make and burnish your pots for the Teepee kiln. (Burnishing is a technique where you rub the pot to create a high sheen). *If you are an experiences thrower you are welcome to make your pots on the wheel during the building workshop) Workshop dates Saturday 9th July 10-2pm 0r Sunday 10th July 10-2pm Firing: The Teepee firing is booked in for August 7th (weather dependent) 9- 4pm approx All levels welcome Please get in touch for further information This event is sponsored by creative communities

      4 week Wheel throwing for beginners September (FULL)

      4 week Wheel throwing for beginners September (FULL)

      In this 4 week beginners wheel throwing course, aspiring potters will learn the basic throwing techniques used to throw cylinders, cups and bowls. You will learn to throw, trim and glaze your creations. Over the first two sessions will learn to throw pots on the wheel, focusing on making mug sized cylinders and bowls. By week 3 you will be able to choose your 4 favorite pieces to finish and decorate, you'll learn to turn your pots, carve foot rings, and define the forms. Then we will pull and attach handles. The last session is all about getting creative with decoration and personalizing the work. We ask that participants bring an apron or over shirt to keep their clothes clean and a hand towel Max class size: 5 Age 14 plus Our policy is that all students and tutors must be fully vaccinated and students are required show their vaccine pass when they arrive. Mask wearing is recommended (or mandated depending on government settings) for all students.       Take your pottery to the next level with this intermediate pottery course. If you have completed a beginners pottery course and want to develop your skills further then this course is perfect for you! During this fun filled five week course we will refresh the basic hand building techniques and build on them. This course is structured around your project ideas. we'll take a look at the type of work you liked to make and work on projected that develop your ideas Dates: Thursday July 28 , 6-8pm 2022 Thursday August 4th, 6-8pm 2022 Thursday August 11th, 6-8pm 2022 Thursday August 18th, 6-8pm 2022 Thursday August 25th, 6-8pm 2022 $229 Including 2kg finished weight Clay*, Glaze and firings * Students wanting to make larger work will be charged an extra materials and firing fee based on the size of the project Ages 12 plus

      Covid Health and Safety measures:
      Island View Pottery is a close contact business. All participants are require to show a vaccine passport and masks are worn during classes unless all members are in a pre existing bubble.
      Refund Policy
      A full refund (minus $25 administration fee) will be given if you cancel 3 weeks prior to the class starting.
      A 50% refund will be given if you cancel 2 weeks prior to a class starting.
      No refund will be given if your cancellation occurs within 2
      weeks of the class starting date.
      Tuition fee is due in full at time of registration.
      There are no refunds or make-up classes for missed classes. If you wish to book a private class to make up for a missed class the fee is $45 ph
      Island View Pottery reserves the right to cancel classes with insufficient enrolment. A full refund will be issued if this is the case.
